The Significance of Pylorus Preservation in Pancreaticoduodenectomy

Abstract
To clarify the role of gastric antrum and pylorus in pancreatoduodenectomy, author made three animal group; normal control(4 dogs) pylorus preserving pancreatoduodenectomy(6 dogs), and Whipples¢¥ operation group (5 dogs). The functional changes of stomach after operation were assessed by postoperative `weight change, gastric emptying time and gastric acid output.
With those experiments, the surgical procedures of antrum and pylorus preservation in pancreatoduodenectomy demonstrated better gastric emptying of solid meal without significant changes of gastric acidity and gastric mucosa.
